Robinhood Rolls Out OpenAI and Anthropic Trading Agents to 29 Million Customers, First Nontechnical Agent for Mass Retail Investor Base

Robinhood Markets announced on September 29, 2026, that approximately 29 million customers will have access to AI-powered trading agents using OpenAI and Anthropic models, allowing users to instruct agents to execute trades, conduct research, and build complex investment strategies through plain English commands, according to Fortune, CoinDesk, and AOL reporting from the company's HOOD Summit in Houston. Customers can choose between various OpenAI models including GPT-6 Luna and GPT-6 Sol, and Anthropic's Opus 4.8, with the lower-end GPT-6 Luna offered free until the end of 2026 and standard token rates charged for other models, Fortune reported. The agents operate through dedicated Robinhood accounts with user-set trading limits and optional transaction approval requirements, according to Investing.com.

The rollout follows Robinhood's May 2026 release of an MCP tool allowing technical users to connect their own agents to its trading platform, with over 150,000 customers already having opened agentic accounts using that more technical version, and various agents transacting nearly 30 million trades per day on Robinhood as of late September, according to KuCoin News. Fortune noted that Robinhood is the first to release a nontechnical trading agent for a giant customer base.

Robinhood's 29 million customers will be able to delegate trading decisions to AI agents, a shift that Fortune noted has the potential to alter how Americans invest and could have ripple effects on markets more broadly. Robinhood's view is that hosting agents does not amount to providing financial advice and that suggestions or actions are akin to customers asking the internet or a friend, though the legal landscape around agentic trading is still evolving.
