India Sweeps Three Compound Archery Golds at Asian Games with World-Record-Equalling Performance
Record added
India won three gold medals in compound archery at the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya, Japan, on September 30, 2026, sweeping the women's team, mixed team and men's team events, according to ANI, The Week, and Outlook India. The women's team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep defeated China 238-234 in the final, equalling the world record score of 238 set at the Asian Games. The mixed team of Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav then beat South Korea in a shoot-off to claim gold. The men's team of Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru defeated China 238-237 in the final.
Chikitha Taniparthi competed in two finals on the same day, winning both the women's team gold in the morning session and the mixed team gold in the afternoon. Jyothi Surekha Vennam secured her fourth Asian Games gold medal, while Chikitha and Prithika Pradeep won their first Asiad gold medals on their Games debuts. Sahil Jadhav finished with a 100 percent record of hitting 10s in the men's team final. The three golds brought India's total medal tally at the Asian Games to 58, including 10 gold, 21 silver and 27 bronze medals, according to ANI.
Compound archery will make its Olympic debut at LA 2028 with the mixed team event as the sole compound discipline, following an IOC announcement in April 2025. Twelve mixed teams will compete for quota places. India's sweep positions its archers as medal contenders in a format where the country has built sustained international dominance, though specific Olympic qualification pathways for LA 2028 remain to be determined.
