Rahul Gandhi Questions Election Commission and TCS Over Alleged Illegal Changes to Voter Registration Form 6, Demands Accountability

Record added

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the Election Commission of India and Tata Consultancy Services on October 1, 2026, over alleged illegal changes to the online voter registration Form 6, asking who at the ECI ordered TCS to make the changes and who at the company signed off on them, according to The Week and Business Today. Gandhi's remarks on X followed a report by The Indian Express that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had objected on record at least 14 times over the past 10 months to decisions related to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls that they said were issued without their knowledge. The controversy centers on an additional declaration added to Form 6 requiring applicants to establish whether they or their parents or grandparents appeared in an earlier electoral roll. The Election Commission subsequently removed the additional SIR-linked declaration from online Form 6 in states where the SIR process has been completed, though it continues in states where SIR is still underway. TCS manages the Election Commission's core digital backend infrastructure and portal management.

Opposition parties escalated their campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with opposition MPs planning to march to the Election Commission on October 6 and meet the President over alleged irregularities in the voter-list revision process. The Election Commission has maintained that differences during internal discussions are part of the regular decision-making process and that all decisions of the full commission were unanimous, leaving unclear whether proper legal procedures were followed in modifying statutory forms.
