Israeli Settlers Kill Mashhour Yassin, 51, in Yasuf Village Attack October 1, Bringing West Bank Death Toll to 87 in 2026

Israeli settlers shot and killed Mashhour Yassin, a 51-year-old Palestinian man, during an attack on the village of Yasuf in the northern occupied West Bank on October 1, 2026, according to the Palestinian Authority Health Ministry and multiple outlets including Reuters, The Times of Israel, and Haaretz. Village council head Jumaa Abdel Fattah told AFP that dozens of settlers armed with sticks and firearms attacked the village around 1 p.m. local time, and Yassin was at his doorstep when he went out to defend his house. The director of the government hospital in Salfit told the official Palestinian news agency WAFA that Yassin was killed during the settler attack. The IDF also reportedly blocked an ambulance in the village, seized its key and threw it away, according to Haaretz.

Israel Police said they were investigating after dozens of Palestinians hurled stones at Israeli citizens, lightly wounding a minor, and were probing a claim by settlers that Palestinians tried to drag an Israeli teenager away from a hiking group, according to The Times of Israel. Police did not mention any Palestinian injuries in their statement.

The Palestinian health ministry said the incident brought the total number of Palestinians killed by Israeli violence in the West Bank in 2026 to 87.
