Houthi Attacks on Saudi Airports Kill Three, Injure 36 as Coalition Destroys 82 Military Targets in Yemen
Record added
Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi forces attacked two Saudi Arabian airports on October 7, 2026, killing three people and injuring 36, the Saudi-led coalition announced. The attacks targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport in the southwest using ballistic missiles and drones, according to Arab News and The Tribune. At Abha Airport, two people were killed and 28 injured, while one person was killed and eight injured in the strike at King Khalid International Airport, The Tribune reported.
The Saudi-led coalition said on October 8 that it had destroyed 82 Houthi military targets in retaliatory strikes across Yemen, warning that attacks on civilian sites will not go unpunished, Arab News reported. The escalation comes as Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces have intensified operations to retake Houthi-held territory, part of a broader resumption of Yemen's civil war after the collapse of a 2022 truce. Al Jazeera reported on October 7 that Houthis also launched missiles at Aden International Airport, forcing authorities to divert a Cairo-to-Aden flight to Jeddah. Saudi air defenses intercepted a ballistic missile north of Riyadh early on October 7, the coalition confirmed.
The renewed airport attacks expose Saudi Arabia's vulnerability to Houthi missile and drone capabilities despite years of coalition air operations. The targeting of civilian air infrastructure constrains both domestic air travel and international connections to the kingdom. With Pakistan and Turkey pledging military support to Saudi Arabia under a regional defence pact, the conflict risks expanding beyond the Yemen-Saudi border into a wider regional military commitment.
