Amazon in Talks to Acquire AI Startup Decart for Approximately 7 Billion Dollars, Wall Street Journal Reports

Record added

Amazon is negotiating to acquire AI startup Decart in a deal valued at approximately 7 billion dollars, the Wall Street Journal reported on October 11, citing people familiar with the matter, according to coverage by GuruFocus, Benzinga, SiliconANGLE, CryptoBriefing, and American Bazaar Online. Decart, founded in September 2023, has developed the Decart Optimization Stack (DOS), software that allows developers to switch AI workloads seamlessly between different chip platforms including Nvidia GPUs, Google TPUs, and Amazon's own Trainium chips, according to SiliconANGLE and CryptoBriefing. The company also builds world models called Lucy and Oasis designed to generate and simulate real-world 3D environments for applications including virtual try-ons, video games, and robotic training, according to the Wall Street Journal reporting cited by American Bazaar Online. Decart raised more than 400 million dollars in venture funding and was valued at nearly 4 billion dollars in a May 2026 round, according to the Journal.

Anthropic previously weighed a 6 billion dollar deal for Decart and walked away after due diligence in September 2026, according to Bloomberg reporting cited by CryptoBriefing and GuruFocus. Market strategist Shay Boloor stated on X that Amazon is effectively buying software expertise to improve Trainium utilization and make its custom silicon more attractive as AI workloads expand, according to Benzinga. The deal, if completed, would give Amazon chip-agnostic AI optimization capabilities that reduce customer lock-in to Nvidia-only stacks, potentially easing pressure on Amazon Web Services to secure scarce Nvidia GPUs but also introducing integration risk if Decart's tooling fails to deliver comparable performance or developer adoption at scale.
