Abu Dhabi Announces Speed Limit Reduction on E311 from 120kph to 100kph Effective Monday September 14

Abu Dhabi Mobility announced on September 11 that the speed limit on a section of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Road (E311) will be reduced from 120kph to 100kph in both directions effective Monday, September 14, according to The National, Gulf News, and Khaleej Times. The reduction applies to the section between Tawi Al Qaymah Street and Al Khayr Street in both directions, with Baniyas Cemetery serving as a key landmark. The affected stretch covers traffic moving toward both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, spanning the corridor between the At Turoush Street/Tawi Al Qaymah Street junctions on one end and the Al Khayr Street interchange on the other. Abu Dhabi Mobility urged motorists to reduce their speed and comply with the strict limit to avoid penalties. Abu Dhabi enforces a zero-tolerance speeding policy, with radars activating the moment a vehicle exceeds the limit by just 1kph. Penalties for speeding range from Dh300 to Dh3,000, with serious violations attracting 23 black points, vehicle impoundment and fees of up to Dh50,000. The announcement is part of a broader pattern of speed limit adjustments across Abu Dhabi's major highways, with previous reductions implemented on E22 and E30 in February 2026, and the removal of the 120kph minimum speed limit on E311 in April 2025. Separately, Abu Dhabi Mobility announced a temporary lane closure on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street (E11) in the direction of Al Shahama, with the two left lanes closed from 12am Sunday September 13 until 5am Monday September 14.
