Abu Dhabi Launches Phase 2 of Livability Strategy on September 19 After Completing Over 60 Projects Worth Dh12 Billion, Shifting Focus from Building Facilities to Measuring Operational Quality

The Department of Municipalities and Transport launched the second phase of its Livability Strategy on September 19, marking a major evolution of the program after completing more than 60 projects worth over Dh12 billion under phase one, within a broader approved budget of Dh42 billion. The first phase saw more than 60 major development projects completed, including the construction of more than 200 parks and sports courts, 24 schools, 21 mosques, and 28 community majlises. Nearly 120 kilometers of walking paths, 283 cycling tracks, approximately 220 kilometers of new street lighting, and 200 beautification works were completed as part of these projects. The neighborhood completion and integration index also recorded a significant increase, rising from 67 percent to 84 percent in just two years. The second phase will shift focus from providing community facilities and services to enhancing their operational quality and efficiency, using predictive, data-driven planning to direct government investment where it has the greatest impact. The new phase will be supported by a unified digital platform and smart analytical systems designed to monitor the condition and quality of infrastructure assets and public facilities. Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, said the launch of the second edition of the strategy reinforces Abu Dhabi's position as a preferred global destination for living, working, and investment, and demonstrates the Emirate of Abu Dhabi's ability to accommodate rapid urban growth within an integrated planning framework that connects growth with quality-of-life and infrastructure priorities.
