The video, shared on social media, shows incidents where pedestrians crossed roads from designated areas but motorists failed to reduce speed, resulting in collisions. In one incident captured in the footage, two men are seen crossing the road from a designated area but the motorist does not reduce speed and hits them. Abu Dhabi Police called on drivers to exercise caution and pay attention to reduce accidents, while also warning pedestrians about the importance of following traffic safety rules. The authority cautioned against the dangers of crossing roads in places not designated for pedestrians, which can cause run-over accidents. Police urged pedestrians to use designated crossing points and drivers to slow down near crossing areas and remain attentive while driving. In the UAE, jaywalking is punishable by a Dh400 fine. The authority emphasized that both drivers and pedestrians share responsibility for road safety and that adherence to traffic rules by all parties is essential to preventing accidents. The video warning comes as part of Abu Dhabi Police broader campaign to raise awareness among road users and improve behaviour to reduce traffic accidents across the emirate.
