Israeli military forces launched raids across multiple locations in the northern West Bank on the night of September 4-5, including a highly visible incursion into the Arab American University dormitories in Jenin, according to Palestinian outlets Shehab and Quds News and confirmed by Haaretz with photographic evidence. The IDF also raided Tammun and Wadi al-Fara in the northern West Bank, firing live ammunition and stun grenades during the operations. The Jenin raid targeted university residential facilities, with Israeli military vehicles photographed driving into the dormitory complex. Separately, Israeli forces arrested Palestinians in the town of Qabatiya in the West Bank, alleging they were planning to carry out an attack against Israelis and security forces, and detained ten others during a 48-hour operation in Nablus, seizing more than 30 weapon production machines used to manufacture weapons. The raids continue Israel's sustained counterterrorism campaign in the northern West Bank, which has seen near-nightly operations since the October 2023 Gaza war began. The incursion into university dormitories in Jenin represents a particularly sensitive escalation, as educational institutions have historically been treated with some restraint even during intensive military operations. Jenin and its refugee camp have been the focus of multiple large-scale IDF operations over the past two years, including a seven-day raid in late August 2024 and a major operation in January 2025 that coincided with Palestinian Authority attempts to assert control over the Jenin Battalion militia. The timing of the current raids, days before the Jewish High Holiday period beginning September 11, suggests operational continuity despite the approaching holiday period.
