India Crosses 300 GW Non-Fossil Power Milestone, Solar Accounts for More Than Half

India crossed the 300 gigawatt milestone in installed non-fossil power capacity, reaching 300.50 GW as of July 31, 2026, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy cited by Eka Infra. Solar power accounts for 164.59 GW, more than half the total, followed by wind at 58.14 GW and hydro at 57.24 GW. The milestone represents more than 60 percent of India's 500 GW non-fossil capacity target for 2030, highlighting the rapid expansion of the country's clean energy infrastructure. The achievement comes as India undertakes one of the largest infrastructure transformations in the world, with massive investments channeled into highways, railways, urban transit, ports, and renewable energy. The Union Budget for FY 2025–26 allocated 11.21 lakh crore rupees in capital expenditure, approximately 3.1 percent of GDP, according to ConstructionPlacements. The National Infrastructure Pipeline now covers over 13,000 projects worth 185 trillion rupees, with the PM GatiShakti initiative enabling evaluation of 396 infrastructure projects worth $207 billion, of which 198 are currently under implementation.
