Indian Railways approved three infrastructure projects totaling Rs 675 crore on September 1, 2026, according to a Press Information Bureau release. The package includes a Rs 272 crore, 11-kilometer bypass rail line between Adra end and Joychandipahar in West Bengal under South Eastern Railway, Rs 170 crore for deploying Kavach Version 4.0 automatic train protection across 712 route kilometers of Moradabad Division in Uttar Pradesh, and Rs 233 crore for electronic interlocking at 21 stations in Samastipur Division, Bihar, as reported by Metro Rail News and Elets eGov. The Adra-Joychandipahar bypass falls under the Energy, Mineral and Cement Corridor initiative and is expected to facilitate additional traffic of 8.88 million tonnes per annum upon completion, with projected movement of 6.065 freight rakes per day. The bypass will particularly support freight movement tied to Steel Authority of India Limited's 23.40 million tonne per annum iron ore demand and Bharat Coking Coal Limited's projection of 45 coal rakes per day, according to Indian Infrastructure and multiple railway-focused outlets. The three-project package signals continued momentum in Indian Railways capital expenditure across freight infrastructure, safety systems, and signaling modernization. For UAE-based construction, logistics, and materials firms with India exposure, the corridor projects offer potential offtake opportunities in steel, cement, and specialized rail equipment sectors, while reinforcing India's broader infrastructure investment trajectory that has attracted Gulf capital into Indian transport and logistics assets over the past year.
