IQM Quantum Computers announced on September 10, 2026 its upgrade path for a logical-qubit-capable quantum computer named LUMI-IQ, to be deployed at CSC IT Center for Science in Finland and integrated into the LUMI AI Factory to form a hybrid HPC, AI, and quantum computing platform, according to a company press release via Business Wire. The system is co-funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and participating countries Finland, Czechia, Norway, and Poland, marking Europe's first superconducting quantum computer explicitly designed to sustain error-corrected logical qubits. LUMI-IQ will be delivered in three phases through 2029: the first installation of an IQM Halocene H4 system in 2027 with 150 physical qubits and early quantum error correction capabilities, an upgrade in 2028 to lower logical error rates and enable real-time error correction, and a final installation of an IQM Halocene H5 system in 2029. After the final upgrade, LUMI-IQ will be capable of fast real-time feedback sustaining logical qubits and enabling full logical operations between qubits, including lattice surgery and T-gate teleportation, supporting up to nine fault-tolerant logical qubits using distance-3 surface and color codes. The deployments align with IQM's development roadmap for fault-tolerant quantum computing by 2030. IQM, founded in 2018, completed a business combination with Real Asset Acquisition Corp in July 2026 and now trades on Nasdaq Global Select Market as IQMX. The company has already delivered a 20-qubit Pathfinder system to Oak Ridge National Laboratory in June 2026 and a 54-qubit system to Galaxy Systemy Informatyczne in Poland earlier in the year. IQM states it has sold 23 quantum computers globally, more than any other manufacturer.
