Argentine Federal Police raided the home of a 15-year-old in Quilmes, Buenos Aires Province, on Thursday September 11 after the FBI alerted them that the teenager had been discussing plans to murder classmates with the generative AI chatbot ChatGPT, according to reports from Buenos Aires Herald, Clarín, and Breitbart. The investigation began August 19 following an alert from the FBI Legal Attaché at the US Embassy in Argentina. The alert was raised after the teenager used key monitored words during discussions with the artificial intelligence platform, asking the chatbot what he would need to carry out an attack on his schoolmates, planned for 2027. The teenager was identified through his IP address. During the Thursday night operation, officers seized tactical gloves, balaclavas, and camouflage gear, though no firearms were found. Argentine officials have not disclosed the teenager's identity because he is a minor. Local reports did not specify how the FBI initially became aware of the conversations or whether OpenAI played any role in bringing them to authorities' attention, though AI Weekly reported that OpenAI monitoring surfaced the exchange and the FBI legal attaché relayed the alert. This marks the second FBI-assisted investigation involving alleged school attack plans in Argentina in 2026. In February, the FBI helped Argentine authorities detain two teenagers aged 15 and 16 after a series of antisemitic and racial supremacist messages attributed to the pair was detected on social media, according to Infobae. The incident surfaces a question with direct operational implications for enterprises deploying large language models in customer-facing or employee-accessible environments: what content-monitoring obligations attach to a conversational AI system the moment a user types something that crosses from ideation into actionable planning for violence. OpenAI monitoring apparently surfaced this exchange weeks before the planned attack date, and the FBI relay to
