The UAE Fuel Price Committee announced on July 31 that fuel prices for August 2026 would increase by 20 fils per liter across all categories, effective from August 1. Super 98 petrol is priced at AED 3.60 per liter, up from AED 3.40 in July, while Special 95 stands at AED 3.49, compared to AED 3.29 the previous month. E-Plus 91 is set at AED 3.41, and diesel at AED 3.80, up from AED 3.60 in July, according to announcements from the committee and reported widely across UAE media. The increases follow global oil market movements, with Brent crude averaging near $80 to $90 per barrel through July after volatility tied to the Strait of Hormuz closure and subsequent optimism over reopening talks. Despite the August increase, fuel prices remain below the peaks reached in April, May and June 2026, when geopolitical tensions pushed crude oil to $126.69, the highest since 2022. The committee applies a monthly pricing mechanism that averages international price fluctuations from the preceding period. Motorists filling a 50-liter tank in August will pay between AED 10.20 and AED 14.80 more than in July, depending on fuel type. The pricing adjustment reflects the UAE's liberalized fuel market structure, which ties retail rates directly to global crude benchmarks without subsidies, ensuring that domestic prices move in step with international energy markets and the country's fixed dirham-to-dollar exchange peg.
